Treating Minor and Severe Cases of Receding Gums

Monday, October 24th, 2011

Common causes of receding gums are poor oral hygiene, genetics, misaligned teeth, severe gum disease and harsh brushing.  Although these dental problems are normally experienced by senior adults, there are cases that occur on people at an early age.  Most often, receding gums do not show any signs of symptoms at its early stages, rather they gradually develop and eventually the affected individual will feel a little discomfort and pain.

Receding gums can be treated and resolved with the help of dental professionals.  For people who experience these gum problems, there is an appropriate receding gums treatment that can be done and performed.  For minor cases, the usual treatments done are regular cleaning, removing of plaque buildup, and aligning of the teeth.  For severe cases, the most common treatment used by dentists is drilling holes in the teeth and filling them with substance that prevents the gums from gradually receding.

A new method of receding gums treatment is already studied by dental professionals but this method is still not yet approved by the American Dental Association.  The process is done by using a dental drill to be able to roughen the smooth portion of the teeth.  After creating a roughened surface, a material is applied to the surface and is dried by applying a high intensity blue light.  After drying the material, another layer of filling is then applied in order to stop the receding of gums.

Aside from the methods mentioned above, other options of receding gums treatment are available.  There are herbal solutions or homeopathic therapy that can be taken and there are home remedies that can be done.  For minor problems, dentists recommend that the affected individual should develop proper oral hygiene.  By maintaining good oral health, receding gums can be stopped and dental problems will be prevented.

It is important to undertake receding gums treatment because it can help relieve the comfort and pain it caused.  Premature receding gums can easily be prevented through proper brushing, flossing and regular dental check up.  Keeping the mouth and teeth as clean as possible can really help a lot in preventing receding gums and other dental problems as well.  As recommended by any dental professional, it is important to remember that prevention is better than cure.  But if the worst cases happen, there are still ways to be done in order to help resolve any dental problems and concern.
