Natural Cure for Sjorgren’s Syndrome

Sjorgren’s Syndrome is an auto- immune disorder where the white blood cells (the infection fighters) attack the moisture producing cells of the body.  Sjorgren’s Syndrome is often misdiagnosed and patients may suffer for many years before a correct diagnosis is made.  Sjorgren’s seems to attack the lacrimal glands (which make tears) and the salivary glands (which make saliva).

There is no cure for Sjorgren’s Syndrome at this time. Though symptoms of Sjorgren’s can vary widely from person to person, almost every person who suffers from this disorder struggles with two common side effects.  The primary symptoms of this auto- immune disorder are dry eyes and mouth. Over the counter or prescription lozenges, drops and other medications are the treatments for sjogren’s syndrome that may help ease the dryness and other problems related to Sjorgren’s.  However if you are looking for a change and don’t want to fill your body with medications that may be hard on your organs you may want to consider natural alternatives for symptoms.

Certain natural oils can help reduce dry mouth and other discomforts related to Sjorgren’s.  Natural peppermint and spearmint oils have been used for centuries as a natural antibacterial and make an excellent sjogren’s syndrome treatment.  These oils can help eliminate bacteria in the mouth that saliva would normally wash away.  For those with Sjorgren’s they lack the saliva necessary to remove bacteria on their own which makes them more likely to suffer from gum infections and tooth decay.  Patients with Sjorgren’s should see a dentist at least twice a year and more if necessary to watch for signs of infection.  Brushing and flossing daily along with chewing sugar free gum or hard candies and natural alternative for sjogren’s syndrome may also be helpful to encourage saliva production.

Research studies around the country are being conducted on patients who have been diagnosed with Sjorgren’s to help develop a better understanding of the disease.  Until the medical field is able to determine the cause of Sjorgren’s a cure may not be found.  Until a cure is found continue to take care of yourself and see your doctor regularly to keep your body functioning at its best.
